Europe Universalis III Complete is a tactical strategy game in which players guide the socio-economic, political, and militaristic growth of different historically accurate nations and city-states of Europe. Players determine various actions such as trade, religious standings, and alliances, which impact relations with other nations. Nations can establish trade routes and import/export a variety of goods including wine and tobacco products. At times, players can engage in war to gain territory or defend its borders. Combat is depicted with icons engaging in battles and highlighted by combat sound effects and numerical values indicating troop damage. A text message indicates the winning faction. Expletives (e.g. "damn" and "bastards") can be heard in the dialogue.
