Star Ocean: Second Evolution is a fantasy role-playing game (RPG) in which players control two interplanetary adventurers who must prevent a planet from being destroyed. Players traverse towns and dungeons and engage monsters in battles using magic spells and sword fighting. Numerical values indicate damage inflicted, while enemies quickly disappear from the battlefield when defeated. Storylines frequently contain suggestive dialogue (e.g., "I'm not supposed to have breast, what's your excuse" and "Whoa, look at those bazooms."). There is also a sequence in which two young female characters attempt to 'pick up' older men, but are roundly rejected (e.g., "Hey, you want a drink or something?" and "Ask me again in five years"). Alcohol is discussed in detail during another sequence (e.g., "I can't deal with this… If I don't get some alcohol in me, I swear I'm gonna go crazy."). Players can also encounter drunk characters who are depicted with slurred speech accented by a '*hic*.' Expletives such as "bastard" and "hell" can be heard in the dialogue.
