Rating Summary

This is a strategy game in which players manage the nation-building elements of the ancient Roman Empire. Most of the action occurs over a map of the Mediterranean world, as players "click on" decision buttons that effect trade, religious standing, cultural, and political outcomes. At times, players can engage in war or other violent actions to gain territory or tactical advantage: combat, represented by soldier icons on a map, includes sword clashing and yelling sound effects; the execution of political prisoners and assassination of rivals is only represented in text/dialogue boxes. The text/dialogue boxes also contain short narratives that affect an aspect of general gameplay. These "Game Events" sometimes reference relationships and sexual material (e.g., "An impromptu orgy was the result and the word is spreading" and "he came home one day to find his wife in bed with a much more popular senator"). The expletive "bastard" occasionally appears in the text/dialogue boxes as well.
