This is an action adventure game in which players control the character Zak Saturday and the Saturday Family in their quest to discover and protect mysterious creatures known as Cryptids. Players navigate through side-scrolling environments and engage in hand-to-hand or ranged combat using a variety of weapons (fire swords, power gloves, rocket launchers, etc.). Players frequently punch and kick fantastical enemies (e.g., giant serpents and slugs) and henchmen that attack with swords, guns, and mines. Enemies react to damage by making grunting noises; louder cries are emitted when character die. The descriptions of some alien creatures include references to violence (e.g., "cannibalistic dwarf" and "[the creature] uses its thin beak to pluck out the brains of its victims").
