In the smal town of Little Riddle, players assume the role of one of four Blue Toad detectives in this "whodunit"'-style murder-mystery game. Most of the game involves solving puzzles, analyzing scenes, and following a somewhat whimsical storyline—the tone of the game is more satire/parody than straight murder investigation. Mini-games include activities such as connecting pipes, deciphering codes, and identifying various characters; quiz-style questions based on what was seen or heard offer further challenges. But as this is a murder-mystery-themed game, a character in Little Riddle does get killed: The crime is depicted only by the victim falling to the ground amidst the sound of a single bullet (e.g., "The Mayor lies dead, his rotund body collapsed at your feet."). The game also contains occasional references to alcohol in the dialogue/narration (e.g., "The corpse of a sherry bottle is silent testament as to the afternoon's activities" and ". . . the public house needs beer.").
