Rating Summary
In this third-person shooter, players assume the role of Alan Wake, a man who traverses a nightmare world to defeat his evil double. As players explore a town and surrounding areas, they interact with nearby characters and solve puzzles to alter Alan's reality. Players must also battle humanoid enemies known as the “Taken” by using various light sources (flashlights); they can also use pistols and shotguns to kill the enemies. The Taken disappear in a flash of embers and shadows when killed/destroyed. One sequence depicts a trail of blood leading from broken glass shards to a dead body. In a variety of sequences, players can view live-action footage from small TV sets that depict somewhat obscured acts of violence: a man getting strangled with a tie; a woman getting her throat slit (off-screen). Some cutscenes include suggestive remarks (e.g., “You're here now. And you're in my head. You should be in me. You should touch me again,” and “Do you want to hold me down? It's okay, I know you like that.”). The words “sh*t” and “a*shole” are heard in the dialogue.
